Planning a Christmas Proposal
So, here’s a short blog about planning a Christmas proposal. Written as I get many enquiries at this time of year about designing and making handmade engagement rings with a view to popping the question over the festive period!
A lot of the engagement and wedding rings I make break with tradition and are made in contemporary styles. I just like to ensure that not only will the pair of rings compliment each other, but also look beautiful when worn on their own. I am getting more and more enquiries about matching pairs of engagement rings for both men and women.
Often couples like to feature this is in their own rings whilst the rings of their partners can totally differ in style, with many men opting for single wedding bands. One new development is that I have had quite a few enquiries regarding engagement rings for men with a wedding ring designed at the same time that will fit next to it at a later date
At this time of year a lot of the tradespeople I use in Hatton Garden have a huge amount of work piling up in the lead up to Christmas so it is wise to think about starting the process now. From the first appointment to the moment you have your beautiful rings in hand ready to go, you need to allow three to four weeks for the whole handmade process. If you have a very clear idea of the exact ring you would like made then you are looking at three weeks

Above are two faceted garnet rings in gold. A client of mine recently had a pair made in 14 carat rose gold with Indian garnets. The teardrop shaped stone ring will be her engagement ring and on her wedding day it will be joined with the marquis shaped stone ring to form a perfect pair. Below is a diamond and white gold teardrop engagement ring in the same style – just changing the stones and colour of metals creates a completely different feel to the same design.
Another consideration when considering engagement rings is whether you wish to add a wedding band. Alternatively, many of my clients scale up their rings to create a larger stone ring which is also their wedding ring. Below is an oval green faceted sapphire in raw white gold which a client decided was a perfect combination of the two – a real statement ring that doesn’t need a wedding band fitted next to it, unless desired.
I make a lot of contemporary style wedding and engagement rings that work beautifully together and incorporate unusual textures and shapes. Below is a brilliant cut 0.5 carat diamond set into a Crumple textured band. This was made to be worn with a Ripple textured wide comfort fit ring (the comfort fit referring to the curved interior of the wedding band making it supremely comfortable).
